Youth Program FAQs

How are your camp counselors and instructors selected and trained?
Camp counselors are selected because of their positive experiences working with children. Instructors are selected because of their content expertise and positive experiences working with children. They undergo first aid, CPR and child development training in addition to criminal background checks before working with children at UNM Continuing Education.

 

Can I use UNM tuition remission for youth classes?
Unfortunately, youth classes are not eligible for UNM employee tuition remission. Learn more about tuition remission at http://dce.unm.edu/tuition-remission.htm.

 

During the Summer is transportation between camps or classes available?
We walk students enrolled in summer on-campus day camps to Johnson Center and Fields for Youth Sports Fitness. Otherwise, parents or guardians must provide transportation. Carpooling is encouraged. Summer only.

 

Is lunch served to Summer campers?
Summer campers enrolled in on-campus day camps automatically receive a free APS lunch, served from 12pm - 1pm daily when the program is in session. This will be noted on your confirmation form. Summer only.

 

What forms do I need to complete?
All Continuing Education youth program participants require an Emergency Contact Form and a signed Code of Conduct. Please bring completed forms to the first class session.

 

When does Summer Registration begin?
Summer Registration begins on March 1, 2013. Classes are filled on a first come first served basis until full. Waiting lists are initiated if a class fills very quickly.
