Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
“OSHER is a wonderful addition to my retirement portfolio.”
Margaret Palumbo, Osher Member since 2012
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of New Mexico was launched in the spring of 2007 with 100 members. News of this exciting program spread quickly with members bringing friends and family members to experience the intellectually engaging course offerings. Now in our fifth year, OLLI at UNM has more than 1,000 members and offers more than 200 lectures and courses each year.
We wish to thank the Bernard Osher Foundation for their generous support!

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 10:00AM, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNM presents “Estate Planning for the Middle-Class” with Sheila Hard, JD and Patricia Bradley, JD at the Jubilee Community in Los Lunas
“Estate Planning for the Middle-Class”
You’re not Warren Buffett… You’re not even Jimmy Buffett.
But you know you need an estate plan. And you know it’s not safe to assume a last will and testament is adequate to protect your family and your assets. Even the most carefully created will doesn't defend your heirs and beneficiaries from estate taxes, expenses, publicity and delays of probate. What about your spouse or elderly parents with long-term care needs, potential future income, capital gains or estate tax issues?
While estate planning is often about planning for future actions, there are actions you can take today to insure future benefits for your beneficiaries, including your chosen passions for philanthropy. This interactive lecture-discussion will explore a variety of tools, including wills, gift annuities, tax considerations and other tools that will preserve a foundation for the future.
Sheila Hard, JD
Sheila is a noted practitioner in tax-planned charitable giving. She has advised not-for-profit institutions and provided information to individuals on the tax aspects of their personal philanthropy, discovering and integrating their philanthropic objectives into the estate planning process. She is currently the Director of Gift Planning for the University of New Mexico Foundation. Past positions include Director of Planned Giving for Sacramento State University; Associate Director of the Office of Planned Giving at the University of California, Berkeley, and Executive Director of the Episcopal Foundation of Northern California. Her education includes a B.A. with honors from California State University, Fullerton; an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School; and a J.D. from McGeorge School of Law. She has been a member of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning since 1991.
Patricia Bradley, JD
Patricia Bradley has more than 30 years of experience in the legal profession helping businesses and individuals in bankruptcies, estate planning and business transactions. Her goal is to provide peace of mind in some of life’s most stressful situations. A native of New Mexico, Ms. Bradley returned to New Mexico in 2005. Inspired by her own family’s needs at that time, Ms. Bradley expanded her law practice to include estate planning, business trans-actions and trusts. “At that time, I came to understand how critically important estate planning was to my parents.” Her practice includes simple and complex wills and trusts, special-needs trusts, guardianships, conservatorships and probate. In addition to consulting with individuals regarding asset protection and planning, Ms. Bradley also provides counsel on the administration of complex trusts and the allocation of assets in family trusts. Ms. Bradley is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, where she was awarded the Order of the Coif for a high degree of scholarship. Her achievements continue to be commended by her peers and clients for her professionalism and integrity.
