The San Ysidro anticline lies on the eastern edge of the Ojito Wilderness Area and is a unique geologic landscape within an hour's drive of Santa Fe and Albuquerque. This moderate level hike of 4.5 miles will allow you to explore the spectacular San Ysidro anticline. Here, Mesozoic rock layers have been folded into a dome structure, the core of which has been breached by erosion, exposing a variety of tilted, colorful rocks. The elevation of gain and loss on the hike is approximately 600 feet. Participants should bring appropriate hiking attire. Hiking poles are recommended. Fee includes guide, a box lunch and transportation.

Don't miss this great opportunity to work with artist Leo Neufeld. This class will focus on drawing the human form. Working from the model we will learn to interpret the human form to build confidence and improve control. We will begin with exercises in gesture, expressing the pose in as few lines as possible. The next step will be to block in the structure of the figure, learning to see the effects of light and shadow. Finally, we will cover rendering and techniques for finishing a piece, learning to see the subtleties that allow the artist to become more intimate with the subject. The goal is to learn to see, which in turn allows you to better express yourself. As class size is limited, please sign up early. Instructor information and materials list are availalble through registration and dce.unm.edu. Drawing materials coast approximately $25. Note: A model fee of $20 is payable to the instructor at the first day of class.

Spend part of spring break gazing at brilliant skies and exploring astronomy. Our trip will begin at the Lodestar Planetarium in Albuquerque. From there, travel by van to Sevietta National Wildlife Refuge, located 20 miles north of Soccoro. Activities include star gazing, interaction with astronomers and scientists, a fieldtrip to the Very Large Array, hands-on astronomy activities, movie nights and more. Supervision, activities, entrance fees, meals and lodging are included. Participants stay in single-sex casitas with individual bedrooms and indoor plumbing.
