Come learn to speak and understand a new language. UNM Continuing Education offers beginner to advanced courses for various languages, with most courses taught by native speakers. Many of our instructors are very popular and have had a following for years. Enjoy learning a new language in a fun, comfortable environment.

09603 Express Interactive Chinese
Two characters, (woman) and (boy) combine to mean good." Why is this so? And what on earth does a "big sheep" have to do with America? How can you order a sumptuous roasted duck in Bejing? Using Chinese written characters as a doorway into five topics, you will learn how to exchange greetings, introduce yourself and your family, order drinks and food, and uncover the exotic, modern customs of China. Start to converge on everyday subjects in Italian. Explore a new world through learning Italian and have fun while doing it! Begin to acquire Italian through songs, gestures, jokes, and recipes. This is the class to take if you want to develop confidence with a new language. Required Text: Ultimate Italian: Beginner-Intermediate. Living Language, Random House. 09625 Conversational Spanish Part I
This class is a practical guide for those who have Spanish speaking experience and are motivated to converse but lack skills, vocabulary, and confidence. Through a progression of nouns, verbs, and other parts of speech, students are given the tools and structure which will enable them to be understood. This fun, total immersion adventure in language learning is taught through context. Students should have a basic understanding of grammar and sentence structure. Taking Spanish I and II before enrolling in this class is strongly recommended. This is not a beginning level class.

Have you ever been handed a menu in a French restaurant and wondered what Escargots, Huitres, Grenouilles Provencales and Salade Nicoise meant - and then tried to pronounce it? Here's an opportunity to not only decipher those curious dishes, but to go beyond menu-ordering. With this class, you will explore L'Art de Vivre - the art of living in France; from home to cafe lounging, fine cuisine and how to enjoy life. Learning a language is also discovering a culture so there will be history lessons on gastronomy as well as a wine and cheese tour of France. It is an enjoyable way to learn French with such topic! Students should bring a map of France to class.
