Learn the skills to become a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) for a career move or for your own personal knowledge through the World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S.). This challenging course is taught in collaboration with W.I.T.S. and local health clubs over a six-week period for better retention and skill competency; the certification exam is held on the sixth week. The course is a 36 hour program which includes 15 hours of lecture, 15 hours of practical training, and 6 hours allotted for the exam. Students are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of class hours and pass the exam to receive a certificate. Students will set up and complete a 20 hour internship which is also part of the certification, providing a great opportunity to connect with employers while getting practical experience. Proof of current CPR certificate is also required before CPT certificate is issued. Contact the American Red Cross for training dates. Topics covered include biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessment.

Students must provide proof of CPR training for issuance of certificate. The local Red Cross offers CPR training; for further information, see their website: www.redcrossalbq.org.
