Executive Certificate in Financial Planning

The financial planning field is experiencing tremendous growth as both experienced financial professionals and newcomers enter the market. Increased demand for financial planners is expected to continue, making this field a popular career choice. This 9- month certificate program provides students with a strong foundation of professional knowledge about financial planning theory, concepts, and practice. Students pay one price for the full six-course program. The program consists of the following important course topics:


Receive an introduction to the financial planning profession, to include the concepts of the time value of money, insurance planning, and the practice of personal financial planning by professional planners.

Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management
Study risk return, debt and equity securities, and options and futures contracts. Use a portfolio project to evaluate financial investment alternatives. Study important investment strategies and valuation models to understand basic investment principles and practices.

Taxation of Persons, Property and Other Entities
Examine the federal income tax system, with particular emphasis on sole proprietorship, partnership, and LLC/corporation taxation.

Retirement and Employee Benefits
Study qualified retirement plans, other tax-advantaged plans, nonqualified plans and employee benefits in a manner that integrates the most important concepts of financial planning.

Estate Tax Planning
Learn about estate planning and the taxation of estates. Examine the tax implications of gifts and bequests, federal estate tax, and revocable and irrevocable trusts, including bypass and marital deduction trusts.

Capstone Case Course in Financial Planning
Participate in detailed case analysis, and learn how the six major areas of financial planning—fundamentals, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning, and estate planning—are integrated to form a complete client package.

Classes are generally held every other weekend, on Fridays from 6:00pm to 9:35pm and on Saturdays from 8:45am to 5:00pm. Holidays and local events will alter the dates and times for some class meetings.
