The Greening of Albuquerque - Free Lecture By Mayor Martin Chavez

Martin ChavezAlbuquerque Mayor Martin Chávez, who is dedicated to ensuring Albuquerque’s health and prosperity for future generations, will give a free public lecture on “Albuquerque Green.” The lecture will be held at 2pm in the North Building Auditorium at UNM Continuing Education. The lecture is part of the “Living Green – You Can Do It!” green fair and membership drive that the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of New Mexico is hosting.

The green fair will be held on June 5th from 1pm – 4pm. At the event, there will be experts and displays where patrons can check out simple ideas to improve their homes, gardens, and lifestyles.

Also, those attending the event who are age 50+ can join the many seasoned learners who enjoy courses at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute for only $20. Distinguished professors and other experts give their best teaching in courses on art, history, literature, science and much more.

The Age of the Baroque [19102]

Explore the 17th century European style of art called Baroque that primarily served a political purpose. The art supported the powerful Counter-Reformation Movement of the church in response to the threat posed by the Reformation set in motion by Luther.

Baroque is the Art of Bernini, Rubens and others who used their imagination and stunning virtuosity in the visual arts. The strong emotional aspect of this art form will be the main focus of this course. Also, enjoy a field trip to the instructors home, library, and gallery in Corrales.

Ancient Healing Wisdom [19302]

This course offers hands-on practice in non-invasive healing techniques drawn from Egyptian, Chinese, East Indian, European, Latin and Native cultures. Participants will learn to do healing ceremony, curanderismo limpias, energy balancing and kinesiology, and will craft their own wellness plan.

The Maximal Evenness of Music, Mathematics & Physics [19614]

The evolution of the theory of Maximally Even Sets—a theory initially constructed to model musical scales—will be traced from music to mathematics to physics. In addition, a visual definition and recent applications of iterated maximally even sets in musical voice-leading will be discussed. Musical examples will include works by Brahms, Beethoven, and Liszt.
