Flor y Canto - #10003

Since time of the Aztecs, Mexicans have used the term “flor y canto” (flower and song) to describe their approach to music and the arts. The purpose of this “Flor y canto” series is to induce an appreciation of the beauty and power of Mexican and New Mexican song and literature particularly for non-Hispanics and non-Spanish speakers. Lincoln and the Hondo Iris Farm and Gallery - #00493

Go to San Patricio via historic Lincoln for lunch at the Wortley Hotel. Formerly owned by Sheriff Pat Garret, the hotel and restaurant sit on what was called “The Most Dangerous Street in America” during the Lincoln County War. Recently re-opened, the restaurant delightfully boasts that “No guests have been gunned down in over 100 years”. After lunch, travel on the Billy the Kid Scenic By Way to a place where trails and pathways with hundreds of blooming iris await us as we tour one of the best gardens in the southwest. Known for its collection of prize winning bearded, Dutch Spuria, dwarfs, bicolor and variegated plants, the Hondo Iris Farm is a delight to the iris lover.You will be given the opportunity to view and order your favorites for August delivery or pick up. This tour will also feature a visit to the nearby Iris Farm Annex where you will tour the beautiful handcrafted pewter jewelry designed and made by New Mexico artist Alice Seeley. Pecos National Historical Park with John Kessell - #00511

Join John Kessell, author of the classic “Kiva, Cross, and Crown: The Pecos Indians and New Mexico, 1540-1840″ (1979), for an afternoon tour of Pecos National Historical Park. Dr. Kessell will meet us for a picnic lunch under the trees, and give a brief orientation. After lunch, we will spend some time at the Visitor Center, viewing the exhibits and the park’s short video. Along the trail to and through the ruins, he will give mini-talks and answer questions. Fee includes travel, guide and a boxed lunch. Click here for more information.
