Explore the relationships between nature’s patterns and shapes and effectively designed visual communications. We will deconstruct the underlying principles of successful visual communications and how they relate to the natural world with exercises and experiments to increase the student’s facility with more effective and aesthetic design. The student will apply what they learn to a personal design project that develops skills in self-expression, design aesthetics and understanding principles of nature’s process. A field trip and guest demonstrations by designers and artists are included. Equipment and materials cost about $25. A materials list wil be available the first day of class. Prerequisite: 55101. Suggested: 55105 or 55201.

Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chávez, who is dedicated to ensuring Albuquerque’s health and prosperity for future generations, will give a free public lecture on “Albuquerque Green.” The lecture will be held at 2pm in the North Building Auditorium at UNM Continuing Education. The lecture is part of the “Living Green – You Can Do It!” green fair and membership drive that the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of New Mexico is hosting.
The green fair will be held on June 5th from 1pm – 4pm. At the event, there will be experts and displays where patrons can check out simple ideas to improve their homes, gardens, and lifestyles.
Also, those attending the event who are age 50+ can join the many seasoned learners who enjoy courses at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute for only $20. Distinguished professors and other experts give their best teaching in courses on art, history, literature, science and much more.
