Tour the Festival of the Cranes and Holiday Craft Show in Socorro

quiltCome experience the 22nd Annual Festival of the Cranes at Bosque del Apache and the Holiday Festival of the Cranes Crafts Show in Socorro. This is the largest event held in Socorro County each year and UNM Continuing Education has organized a trip on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 8am-7pm to experience it. An $82 course fee includes a boxed lunch, tour guide (expert, Steve Cox), and transportation. Come prepared to do some holiday shopping bring your cameras to capture the cranes.

Bid on handmade Navajo rugs at the Crownpoint Rug Auction

UNM Continuing Education is pleased to invite you to the Crownpoint Navajo Rug Auction on Friday, November 13, 2009. At the auction you will see many traditional weavers and view exquisite handmade Navajo rugs of all sizes, regional styles, and prices. A large number of Native American crafts people have other wares on sale, including jewelry, pottery, beadwork, and more. Dont miss this significant cultural event. An $87 course fee includes tour guide and transportation. We’ll leave at 12:30pm, have dinner in Grants, and then travel to Crownpoint. There will be time to view the rugs before the auction at 7:00. The bus will leave from Crownpoint at 10:00pm, and return to Albuquerque at midnight. You will find this an unforgettable evening, whether you are interested in purchasing or are just along for the ride.

Mescalero Apache Coming of Age Ceremony
Travel to South Central New Mexico for the Mescalero Apache Coming of Age Ceremony. Held annually during the first week in July, the ceremony celebrates the passage of Apache girls into womanhood and features wonderful traditional food and social dances, the dance of the Apache Maidens and the night dance of the Mountain gods.

Three Wineries and Lunch
We begin at the Ponderosa Valley Vineyards and Winery on the beautiful southern slope of the Jemez Mountains. Mary and Henry have produced award-winning Riesling here since 1978. Next stop, the Anasazi Fields Winery on the western edge of the old village of Placitas. We’ll enjoy lunch in Corrales before visiting Barbara and Keith’s Corrales Winery. Fifth International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe
The largest international folk art market in the US takes place on Museum Hill in Santa Fe. Organized by the Museum of International Folk Art, this dazzling juried bazaar brings in over a hundred artists from Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Latin America and beyond. Enjoy international music and dancing and artist demonstrations. The world is coming to Santa Fe! Fee includes entrance cost and travel. Enjoy the show without worrying about parking!

Watch the Ospreys Soar
Ospreys are plentiful in many areas of the United States, but their return to the rivers and lakes of northern New Mexico after a long absence is very exciting. OspreyFest 2008 at Heron Lake State Park celebrates their return and is designed to surprise and delight birders and wildlife enthusiasts of all ages! Fee includes travel, lodging and supper / show at the Elkhorn Lodge.
