Introduction to Glass Fusing

Glass JewelryLearn the basic technical and artistic aspects of fusing glass through four projects completed during class. Create a tile and slump into a dish, create a nightlight and discover the basics of fused glass jewelry. Learn about terms, techniques and materials including dichroic glass and working with molds. Kiln sizes will be discussed and shown in class. All projects will be completed in an 8″ kiln. See a “live firing” in each session of a different warm glass technique. All projects will be fired by Sunflower Glassworks staff during the week between classes. Taught by Mary Datwyler - a full-time glass craftsman, working in fused and stained glass. She has been featured in the Albuquerque Journal, Rio Rancho Observer, Business Outlook and has had work featured on HGTV and KOAT-7. She has also authored a book in stained glass design.

Beginning Stained Glass

Stained GlassLearn the skills of cutting glass and assembling techniques for both copper foil and lead came with emphasis on soldering. One project will be done in each technique. All tools are provided. Taught by Donna Greenstsreet.

Early New Mexico Punched Tin Work

Tin WorkThis one day, hands-on workshop, will teach you the basic techniques of doing punched tinwork. You will learn and practice stamping, punching and scoring on tin. Your class projects, which you can complete in this one day course, are a night-light with electrical and a tin frame with mirror (approx.12″ x 20″). A lab fee of $50, payable to Ginny or Ted Arellanes, is due on the day of class and this covers the materials needed for your projects and the use of all the tools. A lunch break of 1/2 hour, at noon, will allow you enough time to finish your projects. Bring a sack lunch. Taught by Ted and Ginny Arellanes, who are among the pre-eminent craftspersons in this traditional New Mexican art form.
