Here is a sampling of courses the Personal Enrichment Program is offering in August.
14872 How to Write Today’s Romance Novels
Romance novels jump off the shelves, beginning with teenagers, educated working-women, stay-at-home mothers, and even men. These novels can also be adventurous, realistic, light comedy, fantasy, sci-fi, mysteries and mainstream. Today’s romances are often not what your mother read. However, many of the rules for romances are the same. Bring a book by your favorite romance writer, and theme/idea for the book you’re writing. Also bring a description of the heroine and hero and their goal in the book. You will be able to build and enlarge your ideas in the class. I’ll have helpful handouts and suggestions for every student. Bring your sack lunch. We will work through the lunch hour.
Saturday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM; 1 session on August 15, 2009
Cost: $60.00
07524 Reduce Your Use, Your Impact, and Save Money
This class will focus on how your household can reduce the use of utilities, toxic substances, help the environment and keep money in your pockets. Part of the class is hands on, you will learn how to install water saving appliances and create rain collection barrels. This class is taught by Denise R. Wheeler, instructor of Basic and Intermediate Home Repair classes and coordinator of Community Renovation Empowering Women, a volunteer building group working for agencies serving women and children in New Mexico.
Wednesday, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM; 1 session on August 5, 2009
Cost: $35.00
05382 Silver Jewelry Using Metal Clay
Create fine silver jewelry using Art Clay. Art Clay consists of silver particles in a non-toxic binder and water. It looks, feels and acts just like clay. When heated, the binder and water burn away to leave 99% pure silver. A kiln or inexpensive hand held torch can be used for this process. Imagine the incredible jewelry possibilities! No previous art experience or skills are required. Beginners will be amazed at their success. Those who have worked with Art Clay or PMC (Precious Metal Clay) before will be challenged with more difficult pieces. All participants will complete original pieces of jewelry, and learn to set up a “kitchen table” studio to continue working with Art Clay. Iliana Carrillo is an Art Clay certified Senior instructor by Art Clay World USA and a certified artisan by the PMC National Guild. Note: A material fee of $85 is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class. Bring your lunch and a small work light and extension cord to class.
