Actor in SuitImprovisation isn’t just for people who want to perform comedy. Learning how to be present in the moment, listen attentively, and express yourself authentically and creatively, is helpful to any role we play in life, from professional to personal. A body based method of improvisation inspired by the work of Ruth Zaporah, Action Theater forgoes scripts, memorizing, and choreography and instead uses personal awareness to generate movement, sounds and narrative in a supportive, playful group setting. No experience in dance, music, or theater is necessary to enjoy this five-week workshop. You’ll build self-confidence, improve your connection to others, and discover a love for “life in the moment.”

Ever considered becoming a Phlebotomist? Phlebotomy is the practice of drawing blood for medical needs. Our Phlebotomy Certificate Program, designed in partnership with TriCore Reference Laboratories, prepares individuals to break into the medical profession as a phlebotomist. Students complete 60 hours of theory, lecture and review, 60 hours of lab, and 36 hours of Work Skills in the Workplace. In addition, students will complete a 100-hour clinical experience at one of the TriCore Reference Laboratories.

The Greening of Albuquerque - Free Lecture By Mayor Martin Chavez

June 5, 2009; 1pm - 4pm

Martin ChavezAlbuquerque Mayor Martin Chávez, who is dedicated to ensuring Albuquerque’s health and prosperity for future generations, will give a free public lecture on “Albuquerque Green.” The lecture will be held at 2pm in the North Building Auditorium at UNM Continuing Education. The lecture is part of the “Living Green – You Can Do It!” green fair and membership drive that the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of New Mexico is hosting.

The green fair will be held on June 5th from 1pm – 4pm. At the event, there will be experts and displays where patrons can check out simple ideas to improve their homes, gardens, and lifestyles.

Also, those attending the event who are age 50+ can join the many seasoned learners who enjoy courses at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute for only $20. Distinguished professors and other experts give their best teaching in courses on art, history, literature, science and much more.

This hands-on course will provide a basic understanding of the kitchen. Cooking is both an art and a science. Learning to cook is more than learning to follow a recipe. When you grasp the fundamentals of any skill, you become relaxed, confident and able to improvise. Understand the basic foundations of cooking and you are liberated from reliance on recipes and truly experience the joys of cooking. This course is the perfect starting point for all skill levels, from the beginner to the more experienced cook. A sampling of the dishes you will prepare: a seasonal selection of appetizers and desserts, roasted chicken breast with a pan sauce, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and mixed green salad with a classic vinaigrette.
