Award-winning photographer leads close encounters with horses

Lynne Pomeranz combines her lifelong feeling for horses with a talent for photography to lead others on close encounters of the equine kind. Lynn has developed workshops to share some of her own marvelous experiences in getting to know horses in their natural setting. UNM Continuing Education is fortunate to offer two of her workshops this semester! (See below.)

The image to the right is an original photograph copyrighted to Lynne Pomeranz with prints for sale on archival paper. Lynne reports that Cloud, a wild mustang, is still living free at age 12 with his harem in the Pryor Mountains. Visit Lynne’s website to learn more about her published works, including a book, and her life with horses. The galleries are particularly stunning.

Lynne’s images have graced the covers of numerous publications, including The Gaited Horse, New Mexico Horseman’s Directory, Horsemen’s Voice, and the book “Tony & The Cows.” She has received an Addie award and awards from the American Horse Publications. Presently, Lynne is represented by galleries in Sedona, Arizona, Corrales, New Mexico and Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the Fall of 2006 her first book, “Among Wild Horses,” was released by Storey Publishing.

Her workshops in the Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory provide an educational opportunity to learn about the behavior and social dynamics of wild horses and to observe and photograph them in their natural environment. In addition to information about the horses, Lynne shares her knowledge of photography as it relates to capturing equine images on film or digitally. If you are not a photographer, feel free to take field notes, sketch or simply enjoy the horses and scenery. (You should be technically comfortable with your own equipment prior to the workshops.)

Join us at the Horse Shelter in Cerrillos in March or in Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory in May. Now enrolling… Continue reading ‘Award-winning photographer leads close encounters with horses

First, to help with summer planning, you can register for your favorites now and lock in your summer schedule. Learn more about the program here!

For all your Happy Campers: Full-day and full-week day camps! For fans of the ever-popular Youth Sports Fitness afternoon program, Naomi has added morning day camps and a supervised lunch hour, providing campers a full day, six-week, 9 to 5 program, from Monday through Thursday. In a morning day camp, kids enjoy three hours of enriching activities like circus arts, making their own comic books, and magic, and adults enjoy UNM campus parking validation. The Film Fantasy Camp provides teens a week-long, all-day hands-on workshop in filmmaking!

There’s a Writers’ Conference just for young writers. Aspiring authors can spend a day in the company of professional writers and publishers, and choose from a variety of small, hands-on workshops with lots of encouragement.

In Film Fantasy Camp, teens work as a team to create a short film production in just five days!
