Writers Conference- From Start to Sales V

On Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 8:30am–4:30pm UNM Continuing Education will be hosting a conference designed to give attendees what they asked for. For the cost of $140 conference attendees will be treated to a humorous keynote speaker and prolific author of 19 novels, have the opportunity to meet with editors and agents and learn what’s selling in the publishing industry, and what they are buying. All attendees also have the opportunity to sign up for a one-on-one meeting with an editor or agent to “pitch” their writing project. The Writers Conference will be held at the UNM Continuing Education North Building 1634 university Blvd NE.

Learn easy to prepare appetizers that can all be made hours in advance and require little last minute preparation. Also, have fun learning how to prepare classic Italian dishes to impress.

Join us for some great field trips in August with the Story of New Mexico:

Vintage Santa Fe
Join experienced vintage shopper Sharon Niederman for a day of treasure hunting among Santa Fe’s most interesting second-hand shops. Sharon is an author with many published books about the Southwest to her credit, and is a popular guide of many Story field trips.

But shoppers, this isn’t just about bargain hunting. We will look at the history of the world-famous “Santa Fe style” of dress to observe the distinctive, timeless style, and the textiles and designs that express the multilayered cultural heritage of New Mexico. Lunch at the Guadalupe Café. Fee includes travel and tour guide.

Kukulcan: A learning community

Learn Spanish during a 2 week bicultural immersion field trip in México! Speak in Spanish for real life situations and converse with native speakers, and learn Spanish while enjoying México’s natural beauty and rich cultural background.

Kukulcan, an educational community near Cuernavaca, México, provides a supportive bicultural experience for students of Spanish. History, literature, music, traditional medicine and film courses are taught in English. Students enjoy the arts and crafts of México and fun bicultural experiences such as folkloric dance and Latin American popular and folk songs.

Kukulcan features wireless internet, a cooking lab, beautiful gardens and swimming pools - and more! Students stay with a Mexican family and become part of their lives, or for an additional fee for meals, stay in the Residence Halls.

Try something fun to improve your wellness! You can learn the ancient art of Qigong, become introduced to Reiki, or enjoy the fun of moving your body in a NIA class. Feldenkrais: Awareness through Movement shows you how to use your own nervous system to affect personal change. Discover your own personal power with Anthony Rosales’ Fitness Boxing class. This guy will make you move, push, sweat and try until you succeed.

Calling all writers ages 10 - 17! Spend a day in the company of professional writers and publishers. Learn about writing and getting published.

Keynote presented by award-winning author-illustrator Betsy James. Workshops are hands-on and conducted by experienced writers in an intimate, encouraging environment. There will be opportunities for participants to share their work if they wish.

Choose from a variety of workshop topics, including how to:
