Hello everybody! The Summer semester just rolled out and is open for registration! Classes start June 9!

Some of the exciting things this summer:
Summer Magic: Our Youth Program is growing with the addition of our new Youth Program Supervisor, Naomi Sandweiss. Naomi has added some great ideas, including active and fun morning camps to complement Youth Sports Fitness so you can send your child or teen for a full day of healthy, guided activities. In the Film Fantasy Camp, teens make a film together under the guidance of a professional studio. Two sections, starting June 16 or July 7.

Coming up fast — the UNM Young Writers Conference for ages 10-17, held on Saturday, June 7. Tweens and teens can spend a day in the company of professional writers and publishers to learn about writing and getting published! Keynote by award-winning author-illustrator Betsy James. Workshops are hands-on and conducted by experienced writers in an intimate, encouraging environment. Conference size is limited to 40 and filling up fast! Summer fun and learning for adults:

Go to “Club Ed” for a week’s “immersion training” in Digital Photography or Filmmaking!
Make this the summer you catch the creative wave in Digital Arts! Learn to master the technology in one memorable week.
Digital Photography, July 7-11, M-F, 9am - 5pm
Four courses work together as a week-long, full immersion learning experience in Digital Photography — from short walking field trips to practice shots to digital imaging magic. Best of all, enjoy a $75 discount!
Digital Filmmaking is offered in parts I & II.
Digital Filmmaking I – Beginning: June 23-27, M-F, 9am -5pm
Digital Filmmaking II – Intermediate: July 14-18, M-F, 9a-5p
Three or four courses work together as a week-long, full immersion learning experience in Digital Filmmaking — from onsite shoots to digital post-production. Best of all, enjoy an $85 discount!

The Personal Enrichment Program enjoys its full roster of activities, including horseback riding, kayaking, golf and more. Maybe this will be the summer that you learn to play the piano. Our piano instructor, Mark Gutierrez, is one of our featured instructors this summer, and he offers lessons in a fun group setting. Our Arts & Crafts classes welcomes aspiring artists & craftspeople, and has a lot to offer both beginners and those with experience seeking to broaden their repertoire. Leah Denise Anderson, mixed media artist, is our other featured instructor. We’ve got your summer party needs covered in our Bonne Cuisine courses — from grilling and smoking to yummy barbeque recipes to appetizers — learn some fun dishes to take home and enjoy with family and friends. Our Yoga program is growing this summer with many new classes. Yoga strengthens the health physically and mentally and is beneficial for many conditions. There’s time to improve your computer skills this summer with our Fast-Track classes. These computer courses are meant for those who are comfortable with a fast pace of learning and want to “get up to speed” quickly in a topic. Spend a day or a couple of mornings learning what you need to know, go back to work and get it done! We have a selection of courses for Basic Skills and Desktop Computing (Word, Excel) as well as a course for Dreamweaver and InDesign.

And of course, there is a full roster of Computer and Digital Arts courses, as well as our certificate programs, for you to continue with your career goals. We have a full slate of Professional Development courses. If you have been thinking of exploring a new career, perhaps a “Discover Careers” course is just the ticket. Taught by working professionals, these short courses cover the skills and training you need, a typical day on the job, and what type of people may enjoy working in the field. This summer, we offer Discover Careers courses in Human Resources Management, Mediation and Conflict Resolution, Training Development and Instructional Technology, and Real Estate Appraisal.

We can’t let a semester begin without pointing out that there is a brand new itinerary of Field Trips with the Story of New Mexico! Discover an incredible variety of amazing events, people and places that make our Land Enchanted. We visit the Pecos, are invited to St. Anthony’s Feast Day, enjoy a studio visit with a world-famous artist, visit the International Folk Art Festival, and much more! See all of the Field Trips here. The American History in Film mini-series returns with new selections. The Lecture Series gives you unexpected insight into the back story of New Mexico. Join us for a trip to spend time with elephants. There is so much to know about the Story of New Mexico.
