Art & Hiking instructor wins award

Susan Thiele, Continuing Education instructor for The Hiking Artist, starting March 11, and Topo Map and Compass for the Wilderness Hiker, starting April 23, will be awarded the “Creative Juices Prize for Visual Art” in the upcoming 30th Anniversary Issue of UNM’s Conceptions Southwest. Conceptions Southwest (CSW) has been the fine arts and literary magazine of the University of New Mexico for almost 30 years. It serves as a creative outlet for work from UNM undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, faculty, staff and participants of Continuing Education.

Susan’s submission for the award included her own wonderful testimonial as a student of UNM Continuing Education: UNM is the Place to Learn Art! Other than the usual grade school art, I never even picked up a paint brush until I took a class at UNM’s Continuing Education six years ago. Due to the fine instruction and enthusiasm of several instructors, I began a journey into the world of art. Students never know which latent abilities may be kindled through the varied topics of instruction in the Personal Enrichment Program at UNM.”
