Take a field trip and see New Mexico!

Enjoy fun, educational Field Trips with the Story of New Mexico! People travel from all over the world to see the amazing sights of New Mexico — and we can take them in with a day trip or two. Many of our students join us again and again, taking another trip to experience some new wonder of the Land of Enchantment they never knew.

Spring Field Trips start soon! We’ve got some interesting ideas lined up:

Vintage technology & natural healing:

UNM WPA Structures Tour & Telephone Museum
Manually operated switchboards were once New Mexico’s “link to the world,” including one used to warn of an attack by Pancho Villa in 1916! Our day also includes a WPA tour at UNM, guided by Joe McKinney, who wrote “Historic Preservation Policy” for the UNM Board of Regents. Franklin D. Roosevelt ’s historic WPA program provided funding for arts and architecture at UNM and throughout the USA. Fee includes travel, museum admissions, tour & guide.

Spirituality & art:

Lunch & Learning at the Historic Bishop’s Lodge
The Bishop’s Lodge, just outside of Santa Fe, is one of the National Trust Historic Hotels of America. It is a living reminder of nearly four centuries of Spanish, Native American and Southwestern cultures, and began as a private retreat for the city’s first archbishop, the iconic Bishop Lamy. Our guide, Dr. Robert Gish, author, Erna Fergusson Distinguished Alumnus of the University of NM, compares the two seminal accounts of Bishop Lamy, one the novel, Death Comes to the Archbishop, by Willa Cather, the other the profile by Robert Horgan. Fee includes lunch, guide and travel.
