Expert at Digital Arts Conference, March 1, earns national award

Bradley Stoddard of Stoddard Communications, in partnership with the University of New Mexico and Friends of Film, Video and Arts, was honored with two Bronze Telly Awards during the 28th Annual Competition in 2007. Brad, owner of a local multimedia company, has been with our Digital Arts Program for many years as a FinalCutPro instructor and is one of the state’s first Apple Certified Trainers. The 28th Annual Telly Awards received over 14,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents for its 2007 contest. The Telly Awards are the premiere award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as the finest in video and film.

Brad specializes in video-editing with Final Cut Pro and Premiere. Brad is one of the first to complete the training with Apple Computers to become an Apple Certified Trainer in New Mexico. Brad is one of the Experts for our upcoming Digital Arts Conference. His presentation explains how you can become an Apple Certified Pro (quite a distinction on the resume!) Brad has been recognized with other awards for his filmmaking. Brad’s experience includes the use of Final Cut Pro to perform the video editing on the recent short film production, “Clown Camp,” produced by Bill Halverson, which won “Best Picture” in the 2003 DigiFest Film Festival 2 and “Best Overall Movie” in the 2003 Fiery Film Fest. He recently won a spot to have his script produced in the 2005 Duke City Shootout Digital Film Festival. Owner of a local multimedia company, Brad produces digital video and computer graphics for CD-ROM, DVD, and web-based learning systems.

The 2008 bronze Telly Awards are shared with the University of New Mexico — University College for “The Research Service Learning Program at UNM”, and with Friends of Film, Video and Arts for “Director’s Cut New Mexico — The Art of the Interview”. The Friends of Film, Video and Arts, based in Albuquerque, is a new partner with the Digital Arts Program for new film classes coming up in the Spring ‘08 semester.

The documentary film “Research Service Learning Program at the University of New Mexico” won a Bronze Telly in the category for Film/ Video - Non-broadcast Productions - Education (for academic use).

Brad also acted as director for the production. Brad Stoddard and Ty Beh produced the 21 minute documentary in conjunction with Peter White, UNM Vice Provost of Undergraduate Studies, Dan Young, Director of RSLP, and Marilyn Davis, Assistant Director of RSLP. (The film explores the RSL program in which UNM graduate students and their classes are paired with local communities to develop a voice in community affairs, find solutions to local problems, and implement their ideas and theories in the real world.) The TV segment, “Director’s Cut New Mexico - The Art of the Interview” won a Bronze Telly in the category for Film/Video - TV Programs - Education. This film was produced in conjunction with the FOFVA as part of the Director’s Cut -New Mexico series, and features interviews with several New Mexico independent filmmakers.

Utilizing an educational approach, Art of the Interview explores techniques used by documentary filmmakers in conducting interviews for documentary film. Friends of Film, Video and Arts (FoFVA) is a non-profit philanthropic organization created specifically to support New Mexican filmmakers, videographers and artists.
