Spanish Resource Center Welcomes New Director

The Spanish Resource Center is proud to announce the arrival of their new Director, Fernando Martín, who will administrate their educational programs by working with state and local school districts, teachers and the public to promote awareness of Spanish language and Spanish Culture. His background in education will enhance the center’s efforts to place teachers from Spain throughout the state. Mr. Martín will also oversee monthly workshops on Spanish culture and cinema and a second Resource Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mr. Martín was born in Zaragoza, Spain. His life has been dedicated to education and he has been an instructor of English, Spanish and Environmental Education. During his first year in the USA, he sold ice cream in Andy Warhol’s hometown, and during his second year he lived near Bodega Bay, the place where Hitchcock filmed ‘The Birds’. He finally came to New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment and his favorite cartoon characters, Coyote and Roadrunner.

Flag of SpainThe Spanish Resource Center is a learning program designed to create awareness of the Spanish language and cultures throughout New Mexico, with a special emphasis on bilingualism. The program is offered by UNM Continuing Education in partnership with The Ministry of Education and Science of Spain and The New Mexico Department of Education. The center’s library is open to students, teachers and the general public and serves 2000 users annually with over 6000 titles. The library is one of eight Resource Libraries in the nation.
