Cloud Cliff Cafe and Pablita Velarde
Visit Cloud Cliff Bakery, Cafe and Artspace, a meeting place for performers, activists, farmers and artists. Willem Malten, owner / proprietor, hosts our tour of his iconic Santa Fe landmark. Since the Cafe’s arrival, the area has been transformed and now bustles with artisans and small business! Then, we’ll travel to the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, where we’ll see an exhibit on Pablita Velarde, of Santa Clara Pueblo, well known to Indian art collectors for her portraits of Indian life. Museum fee included in cost of field trip.

Dixon Artists Studio Tour
Get a jump start on holiday shopping. See unique works of art with roots in New Mexico. The oldest and most established artist’s studio tour in the state is known for quality as well as quantity. Enjoy the tour without the fatigue of finding your way and driving! Dixon is known for its creative, architecturally-unique homes as well as its community of working artists. Fee includes guide Sharon Niederman and travel.

Everywhere Albuquerque - A Day Trip to Visit Public Art
There’s more than 500 works of art in public places in our community! See the many unique bronze statues, ceramic tile benches, murals old and new, neon lights, tapestries, and paintings small and large. Get the “inside story” — learn about the funding, politics, and controversies behind the art! Fee includes travel, boxed lunch, and guide Jane Catherwood Sprague, retired Associate Manager of the Albuquerque Public Art Program.

Smokey Bear Museum and Fort Stanton
Travel with us into the heart of Lincoln County to visit the birthplace and final resting place of Smokey Bear as we visit the Smokey Bear Historical Park and Museum. We’ll lunch at the Smokey Bear Restaurant. Decorated with memorabilia and history about the town’s most famous hero, the restaurant is a local favorite! Then, learn about the early days of Lincoln County at Fort Stanton. Our guide, Cynthia Prelo-Reidlinger, enjoys roots in the area.

Festival of the Cranes
See the cranes at the 20th Annual Festival of the Cranes at Bosque del Apache, the largest event held in Socorro County each year. In addition to the Bosque, we’ll celebrate with the Holiday Festival of the Cranes Crafts Show in an historic 19th century opera house. Fee includes boxed lunch and guide Steve Cox. Steve provided biological services for over 20 years for environmental assessments and monitoring of species of concern. He has been president of Rio Grande Bird Research, Inc, a nonprofit based in the middle Rio Grande valley.

Chaco Canyon - children welcome!
Chaco Canyon, which was once a peaceful, agrarian-based society, is now an archaeological and anthropological wonder which attracts tourists from all over the world. New Mexicans enjoy visiting again and again, since there is so much to be learned. Ancient, impressive stone structures are aligned nearly perfectly with the seasonal skyward paths of the sun and moon. Take your children or grandchildren on this extremely educational tour! Fee includes transportation, guide Bill Neuwirth, and boxed lunch.

Las Vegas, New Mexico Tour
Ride through the neighborhoods of Las Vegas, New Mexico and hear the stories! Author Howard Bryan dubbed Las Vegas, NM, “the Wildest of the Wild West!” Visit the City of Las Vegas Museum and Rough Riders Memorial Collection, Tapetes de Lana, Armand Hammer United World College, and the Old Town historic district — everything from some of New Mexico’s oldest territorial adobe homes to the spectacular architecture of the Montezuma Hotel. Fee includes guide Elmo Baca, Special Projects Program Associate for New Mexico MainStreet.

Christmas Lights in Madrid
The small village of Madrid, New Mexico was a coal mining town from late in the 19th through the middle of the 20th century. Each year, the coal company sponsored a Christmas display using the “spare time” of the miners. See the beautiful lavish display of lights and decorations, and visit the businesses which stay open for this special evening in Madrid. If you’ve travelled the USA during the holiday season, you know that New Mexico enjoys some of the greatest variety of free-spirited displays of creative holiday decorating in the country! The Madrid tradition is something special.
