Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Membership Drive and Free Lecture with Dr. Richard Peck

Dr. Richard Peck, UNM President Emeritus and noted authorContinuing Education at UNM invites you to a membership drive with Dr. Richard Peck, UNM President Emeritus and noted author, to promote its newest program: the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. People 50 years-of-age and older are invited to learn about the benefits of Osher membership and to enjoy a free lecture with Dr. Peck on Tues., Jan. 30 from 9-11am at Continuing Education, 1634 University Blvd. NE, in the CE North Building Auditorium.

Event participants will learn about membership with Osher, a dynamic community of adults who share a common love of learning and who understand how quality of life is enhanced through education. The program offers a wide array of courses, and its instructors are distinguished faculty, scholars, renowned authors and artists, and experts of the Southwest community.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a membership-based educational program designed to serve adults 50 years-of-age and older and is the result of a partnership with the Bernard Osher Foundation. Bernard Osher is a California based philanthropist whose collaborations with various Universities, both regionally and nationally, have proven successful in offering intellectually stimulating learning opportunities for mature audiences.

Dr. Richard Peck, UNM President Emeritus and novelist, will discuss The New Mexico Experience, a sort of history of New Mexico, before and since statehood. He has also published two novels which draw local history entertaining enough to be fictionalized. He’ll discuss the distinction between “history” and “fiction,” and the ways in which the same event can serve both ends.
