Use your Tuition Remission

The UNM Tuition Remission benefit may be used for ALL Continuing Education non-credit classes by UNM faculty, staff and retirees!
Enjoy all of UNM Continuing Education's focused, convenient classes in business, computers, personal enrichment, culture and travel. This includes our Conferences, such as the annual Writers Conference, the Digital Arts Conference, and the Administrative Professionals Conference.

The Story of New Mexico Field Trips are indeed eligible for this benefit! (Please read the policy below.)

How do I register using tuition remission?

Tuition remission may be used when you register via walk-in, mail-in or FAX-in only. It is not currently available for phone-in or online registration.

The forms you need are: a Registration Form and a Tuition Remission Form (also available in our registration office.) A Lobo Card is required. You may use a copy of your Lobo Card for faxing or mailing. See policies below to clarify when a supervisor’s signature is required.

FAX in your registration to 277-1990 for the most convenience! You will receive a confirmation by mail within 2 weeks.

What are the policies?

For Summer 2008, $805.60 /.FTE is available for the semester.
(UNM Retirees enjoy unlimited Tuition Remission! Skip to here.)

In the Fall 2008 semester, $1,611.20/.FTE will be available.

  • You may apply the full amount towards the Business and Technology programs and courses. A supervisor's signature is required on the tuition remission form for all Business and Technology classes.

  • A supervisor's signature is required for work-related non credit courses; (approval is to verify the course is work-related and not subject to the Personal Development/Enrichment limitations.)

  • A supervisor’s signature is required for classes taken during your regular work schedule; (approval is to authorize the absence from work and to approve an alternate work schedule or annual leave.)

  • $402.80 per calendar year out of your total tuition remission allotment may be used towards courses offered through the Personal Enrichment Program, which includes Story of New Mexico and Osher courses.

  • Story of New Mexico courses are subject to the Personal Enrichment Program limitations. In addition, please note there is a limit per Field Trip of $65 per day trip, or $50 per any trip which includes one or more overnight stays. (The cumulative total available of tuition remission to use for multiple field trips is the Personal Enrichment allotment of $402.80 per calendar year. This allotment also applies to Personal Enrichment and Osher courses, so the amount available to use for Story classes will be reduced by other uses of this allotment.)

  • You may apply the Personal Enrichment allotment of $402.80 per calendar year towards Osher classes. The amount available to use for Osher classes will be reduced by other uses of this allotment. (Note: Osher membership fees are not eligible for Tuition Remission.)

  • Supervisory approval is not required when an employee takes a class that takes place outside of his/her regular work schedule and is not work related. These classes would then be subject to the Personal Development / Enrichment limit on the amount that may be applied per year.

  • Tuition remission may not be applied towards materials, book or food fees payable directly to the instructor, usually at the first class session. If a course has this fee, it is posted in the course description. Note: Our Business & Technology course fees typically include the cost of any books for the course.
