For the fourth year in a row, UNM Continuing Education in partnership with SouthWest Writers has invited editors and agents looking for manuscripts, plus an all new roster of published authors, to appear at our Writers Conference.

Attendees who enroll by April 10 will get a FREE ONE-ON-ONE TEN MINUTE MEETING with the editor or agent of their choice to “pitch” their writing project

Best of all — Almost all literary genres, screen plays, and nonfiction books will be in demand, and writers will be able to pitch their projects to either an agent or an editor.

Before the Conference, several writing courses are designed to help writers to complete or edit their manuscript, create synopses, and polish pitches. Please see our list of current writing classes here to get the most out of the Conference and opportunities for writers.

Writers may also pitch unfinished manuscripts. Lunch is included at the conference.

Leading the roster of accomplished authors who will speak at the conference are:

  • Stephen R. Donaldson, winner of scores of awards for his fantasy and science fiction novels. His published works include The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever series, Mordant’s Need, and more.
  • Sarah Lovett, acclaimed author of forensic thrillers and nonfiction books for children, whose published works include the Dr. Strange novels and the award-winning Extremely Weird children’s series and more.
  • Three other authors will represent adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction books. The faculty also consists of two book editors, one editor of a national magazine, and three agents.

Early registration will insure your first choice for your pitch.

After registration (before April 10), email Eileen Stanton, Conference Chairperson, to request your one-on-one appointment with either an editor or agent. Her address is: estanton@cableone.net.
