Flyfishing Basics

10667 Flyfishing Basics
Designed for beginners or anyone interested in the sport, this class has been given annually since 1978 by Bill Black. Practical issues such as where feeding trout are likely to be located in a stream are stressed. The insects most important to trout and the flies that imitate" them are more complex subjects which can be better understood at a simplified and more usable level. One morning is devoted to an outdoors fly casting clinic where students master the basic casting stroke. The costs for dependable yet affordable gear are discussed while special topics such as New Mexico's famed San Juan River and techniques for fishing ponds and lakes round out a comprehensive program. The staff includes Kathie Black who offers a women's perspective on the sport after many years of experience. Jim Black has worked in tackle retail and teaches fly fishing on an individual basis. Jim is in charge of the casting clinic. The second printing of the instructor's book, Fly Fishing the Rocky Mountain West, originally written as a text for the class, has proven helpful for review or for those who must miss a day of class. The book, reduced 60%, is availabe at Charlie's Sporting Goods and Los Pinos Fly and Tackle Shop."
