Laura Gutman

Laura Gutman, Freelance Designer and Multimedia Developer : Laura Gutman, PhD, received her Doctorate in English from the University of St. Andrews. Laura has been a graphic designer and web/multimedia developer for over 14 years. She currently designs and builds computer-based training systems and other web applications. She is the author of several books on web design and programming, and has spoken at conferences nationwide.

Stephanie Kuehn

Stephanie Kuehn, Playwright, Screenwriter, Performer : Stephanie Kuehn has been a teacher of Screenwriting at UNM Continuing Education since 2005.  She holds a Master’s Degree from UNM in Playwriting and a degree in Theatre Arts / Journalism from the University of Wisconsin.

Her critically acclaimed play Final Angel won the prestigious Chicago “After Dark Award” for Outstanding New Work of 2003 and was named among the top five new plays of that year.  Originally read at the Actor's Studio in New York City, it is currently being adapted for film.  Ms. Kuehn worked as a script reader for Victory Gardens Theater, a Tony Award winning professional Chicago theatre, committed to developing new work. Some of the scripts developed and produced during her stay were Marvin's Room and The Whales of August. An Equity actress, Ms. Kuehn was a writer, director and performer for the acclaimed Artist in Residence program in Chicago.  Her most recent screenplay, Moon in the Living Room, has just been completed.

Liz Marshall, Freelance Make-Up Artist: Liz Marshall is a professional make-up artist with over ten years of experience including: 2005: In To The West (Turner) key; 2004: Longest Yard (Paramount), Thousand Roads (Telenova) head; 2003: Coyote Waits / Thief of Time (Redford). Her clients include: Governor Bill Richardson, Nike, Virgin Cellular, Toyota, Time, Readers Digest... and over one hundred commercials. Liz is an Instructor for UNM Continuing Education, the film training makeup/SPFX program, and a member of the local Union Guild IATSE and Local 480.

Maggie Macnab

Maggie Macnab, Macnab Design : Maggie Macnab has been an identity designer for over 25 years and has been published in Communication Arts, Graphis, Step by Step, Print and many hardback books on design. She has taught logo design and symbolism as visual literacy for designers for over ten years at the University of New Mexico, and is past president of the Communication Artists of New Mexico. Her new book, “Decoding Design: Understanding and Using Symbols in Visual Communication,” published by HOW Design Books, will be released worldwide in January 2008 and is available on Amazon.com. MIchael Sherwood

Michael Sherwood, Cottonwood Printing : One of the largest printing companies in New Mexico. Cottonwood now has approximately 28 employees with 2.7 million dollars annually in sales. Cottonwood has been the recipient of two Green Zia Awards, the Quality New Mexico Piñon Award, and last but not least, the Printing Industries of America “Ben Franklin” award.

Michael Sherwood has over 40 years’ experience in the printing industry.  In 1966, Michael began working at Albuquerque Printing Co., his family’s business, at the age of 13, and learned many aspects of the printing process. Michael’s experience includes Handset-Typesetting, Linotype Operator, Litho Camera Operator, Process Stripper, Press Operator, and Computer Graphics Consultant. In 1986, Michael joined Cottonwood Printing Co. as Prepress Manager. In 2000, Michael began a Customer Outreach training program, teaching software applications and “Preflighting” to designers.

As a Photoshop Prepress Expert, he has instructed Photographers, Commercial Art Directors, and Graphics Professionals since 1995. He has conducted Advanced Photoshop Technique presentations at Dona Ana Branch Community College, Durango Graphic Artists meetings, and given one-on-one instruction with his company’s Customer Outreach Program. In addition to instructing in Photoshop, Michael has taught Color Management for Print and PDF to Print seminars as part of his Training Program. (Also presenting: Blake Thies)

Brad Stoddard

Bradley Stoddard, Stoddard Communications: Owner of a local multimedia company, Brad produces digital video and computer graphics for CD-ROM, DVD, and web-based learning systems. Brad specializes in video-editing with Final Cut Pro and Premiere. Brad is one of the first to complete the training with Apple Computers to become an Apple Certified Trainer in New Mexico. He is one of the founders of the Digital Fine Arts Society—New Mexico.

Brad is also an award winning filmmaker. He used Final Cut Pro to perform the video editing on the recent short film production, “Clown Camp,” produced by Bill Halverson, which won “Best Picture” in the 2003 DigiFest Film Festival 2 and “Best Overall Movie” in the 2003 Fiery Film Fest. He recently won a spot to have his script produced in the 2005 Duke City Shootout Digital Film Festival. Brad also acted as director for the production.

Brad’s most recent awards include two Bronze Telly Awards during the 28th Annual Telly Awards competition. The 28th Annual Telly Awards received over 14,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents. The Telly Awards are the premiere award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as the finest in video and film. Brad’s awards were earned in collaboration with the University of New Mexico — University College for “The Research Service Learning Program at UNM”, and with Friends of Film, Video and Arts for “Director’s Cut New Mexico — The Art of the Interview.”

art � Mary Tsiongas

Mary Tsiongas, Artist and UNM Assistant Professor, Electronic Media: Mary Tsiongas is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work addresses human relationships to technology and the natural environment.  Born in Trikala, Greece and now based in Albuquerque, Mary Tsiongas has performed, exhibited and lectured extensively for the past ten years; her work has been shown in over forty solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally.

Tsiongas received her Master of Fine Arts in Film, Video, and Performance from the California College of the Arts in 1993 and her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art. She is the recipient of several grants, awards, and residencies, including a WESTAF NEA grant and a residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Electronic Media at the University of New Mexico. Learn more about the art of Mary Tsiongas at her website: marytsiongas.com.

Zac Van Note

Zac Van Note, Creative Fuel : Zac has been involved in computer graphics and design since 1987. He works as an in-house graphic and web designer for a local company and as a freelancer, creating commercial websites, print catalogs and brochures. Recently, a primary client's website was awarded recognition for best trade website in its industry.

Zac earned his BFA in graphic design at New Mexico State University. In the years before college, he wrote, drew, and published comic books. In the years since college, he’s worked as a graphic designer for three large B2B distributors creating catalogs, web sites, and multimedia presentations.

Since 1999, Zac has taught hundreds of classes at the University of New Mexico and Santa Fe Community College, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, HTML and much more. He has also contributed to several Dreamweaver books as an author and technical editor for New Riders/Peachpit and Thomson-Course Technologies as well as technical websites such as www.dmxzone.com. The site he created for his students, www.creativefuel.org, is a good reference for anyone interested in design and graphics.
